The mineral name is‘pectolite,' which is said to come from the Greek word pectos, meaning‘condensed'. Of the various pectolite stones, the type that has a beautiful ocean blue produced in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas is called‘larimar,' which is very popular for its beautiful patterns.
The larimar is a relatively new stone, being discovered in 1974. It is said that person who discovered the stone named it after his daughter, whose name was Larissa, combining it with mar, the Spanish word for‘sea.' The larimar is only produced in the Dominican Republic.

Avoid leaving in water over long periods of time to prevent from discoloration. Being only found in one place in the world, the amount mined is decreasing each year. Said to be one of the three greatest healing stones, alongside Sugilite and charoite, but not very strong against impact.
