A kind of spodumene where pink ones are called ‘kunzite', green ones are called ‘hiddenite' and yellow ones are called ‘triphane.' While kunzite is pink, the color is very pale and the stone is almost transparent. It is a very beautiful stone, having a vitreous luster and glittering appearance. Spodumene is a pyroxene mineral containing lithium used in batteries. The stone is very hard but also relatively easy to crack. It may be slightly expensive, but we recommend it for the adorable appearance and the keywords it represents.
This stone was discovered only about a century ago. It was discovered around 1900 by Dr. Kunz, an authority on precious stone in the US, and aptly named as Kunzite. Being first discovered in California, it is also known as the California Iris. The spodumene was discovered at the end of the 19th century and the name comes from the Greek word spodoumenos, meaning ‘burnt to ash.'
