Being produced in Chalcedon, an ancient town in Greece, the stone's name comes from the Greek word for the town, Chalkedon. Some chalcedony stones have striped patterns and when they include other elements they are known as agates. Some of the Chalcedony stones have other names according to the color, those without such names are otherwise called by using the color they show. In the case of red ones, they are given the name‘carnelian,' while those with an apple green color are given the name‘chrysoprase.'
